The new Comparison Page is available now

The analysis page ‘Comparison’ allows you to compare two date ranges. Use this tool to compare your most important KPIs with a reference period in order to identify deviations or typical trends. IIn this article, we show you how to make the most of the configuration options to enable you to make data-driven decisions for your strategy and measures.

What you will find here:

Practical examples

Use the period comparison to answer the following questions, for example:

  • Are there any typical trends over the two-year period?

  • In which periods are there peaks in occupancy, RevPar or ADR, or downward dips?

  • How have my marketing campaigns influenced my occupancy development?

  • How do occupancy and RevPar develop at Easter, Whitsun and Christmas compared to the previous year?

  • Which seasonal periods have the highest occupancy this year compared to last year (and to which measures can this possibly be attributed?)

At a glance

When you open the page, you will see a quick overview of the upcoming month compared to the same month of the previous year.

The date range slider makes it easy to select time periods, it is designed to help you identify relevant or interesting time periods at a glance. It shows the two-year development of occupancy, ADR or RevPar, allowing you to make an initial quick comparison.

Switch between the KPIs by clicking on the buttons with your mouse.

The detail tiles below show the exact figures in relation to the reference period and use colour coding to indicate whether the development is positive or negative.

Configuring a comparison

First, navigate to the Analysis tab in Rateboard and then to Comparison.

  1. Define time periods: Start by selecting the main date range by setting a start date and end date using the calendar or date range slider. The main date range is marked in dark blue in the slider. Alternatively, you can select a single day.

Right next to the main date range selection is the reference date range selection. Here, you can also set a start date and end date using the calendar or date range slider, or alternatively select a single day. The reference period is marked in grey in the slider.

  2. Refine the analysis by using filters to limit the results. This allows you to evaluate only a specific room category, for example. Find out more about the available configurations in the section Filters.

  3. Evaluate your analysis using the displayed KPI detail tiles, the revenue & occupancy graph, or the table.

You can easily switch between net and gross revenue by using the slider at the top right of the page.

Analysis of details

The tiles at the top show the most important KPIs at a glance, comparing the main and reference periods. The large numbers represent the results for the main date range. Green or red colour markings highlight a positive or negative difference compared to the reference period.

KPIs displayed:

  • Vacant rooms: current free capacity over the selected main period

  • Forecast: outlook for the expected number of rooms sold and occupancy in the main period (if this is in the future)

  • Occupancy, Revenue, RevPar & ADR: display of the current ‘on-the-books’ status of the KPI and comparison with the selected reference periods. The average (RevPar & ADR) or total (occupancy, revenue) is calculated over the days of the selected period.

Directly below the KPIs, the development of revenue and occupancy is shown in two graphs. The trends of the two KPIs are shown in black (main period) and grey (reference period). If the arrival date is still in the future, the blue line is shown as a dotted line to indicate the forecasted development.

If you move the mouse over the two graphs, you will see the daily figures depending on the DBA (Days Before Arrival) up to the last day of the main period. The tooltip shows:

  • Occupancy

  • Revenue

  • ADR

  • RevPar

To provide a structured overview of the figures, data and facts, there is a table at the bottom of the page showing the key figures for occupancy, revenue, RevPar and ADR depending on the DBA (Days Before Arrival) of the set end date. The KPIs listed therefore refer to the development up to the set last day of the main period.

Differences from the reference period are shown in green (value has improved) or red (value has deteriorated).

Filter

You can get even more detailed analysis results by using filters. Select the attributes you want in the panel next to the date.

Filters limit the analysis results to only specific information. The following options are available for filter selection:

  • Pickup: You can choose whether you want to display the pickup for the last 1, 3, 7, 14, 30, 60 or 90 days starting from today's date. Note: We show the net pickup here, so rooms that have been cancelled are automatically deducted.

  • Room category: The room categories are those you have specified in your inventory settings.

  • Room type: The room types are the same as those you set up and use in your PMS.

  • Segments: The segments available for this analysis are the same as those you set up and use in your PMS.

  • Segment categories: The segment categories available for this analysis are those that you assign to the segments used in the PMS in the RateBoard settings. (Further information can be found here)

  • Channels: The channels available for this analysis correspond to the channels that you set up and use in your PMS.

  • Countries: The countries available for this analysis correspond to the countries you set up and use in your PMS.
